The Love Does Cafe in the DR is Open!

This month, our team visited our programs in the Dominican Republic and witnessed the incredible impact of your support.

In the Dominican Republic, poverty often forces families into desperate situations, with many young girls turning to Sosúa’s streets to survive. At Love Does, we’re working to change this through education, empowerment, and care. We fund preschools in rural areas and offer English classes to provide children with a foundation of safety and learning and open doors to better job opportunities. In Sosúa, our Women’s Resource Center provides certified courses like makeup artistry and English, empowering women to find meaningful work.

And, we opened the Love Does cafe! Located at the resource center, this café not only offers hands-on job training but also helps create sustainability for the center itself.

Celebrating International Women’s Day

On International Women’s Day, we celebrate the incredible achievements, resilience, and contributions of women around the world, including those in the Dominican Republic. Today, we honor the women at the Women’s Resource Center, who embody courage, determination, and leadership.

In Sosua, where prostitution is legal, we encourage women who are seeking a different life, a chance to transform it. In partnership with Infotep, we offer educational courses and certifications in finance, accounting, makeup, and nails, expanding opportunities for women to build sustainable livelihoods. These women demonstrate remarkable strength and perseverance as they eagerly embrace these classes, determined to acquire new skills. This space truly radiates with hope, evident in the determination of every woman who seeks support here.

Today and every day, let us continue to uplift, support, and celebrate the remarkable achievements of women, ensuring that their contributions are recognized and valued. Happy International Women’s Day!

Merry Christmas from Love Does

We can’t believe Christmas is right around the corner! We hope you are spending this month with loved ones eating delicious food and making memories.

As a team, we’re celebrating the many kids around the world who have an opportunity to further their education, especially in difficult places.

Last week, our team had the opportunity of hosting multiple Christmas parties for our preschools in the Dominican Republic. Early Education is key to determining a student’s future success. And of course, the children and teachers felt especially happy when they received gifts of candy and windbreakers. The smiles and the joy on the children’s faces could not have happened without your generosity this holiday season.

Dominican Republic Preschools

It’s been a year and a half since opening the Women’s Resource Center in the Dominican Republic, and we’ve been so grateful to see how many women’s lives have been impacted and the overwhelming support from the community and local government.

As our presence in the Dominican Republic has grown, in conjunction with our partners at GoMad, we are excited to announce the launch of 4 full time preschools in communities nearby the center.

There are a total of 121 children who are getting the opportunity to begin their education starting as young as 2 years old. Not only does preschool provide the foundation for a child’s academic career, but it also helps kids socially and emotionally. And in developing countries like the Dominican Republic, it’s even more important to give kids access to early education to set them up well for their future, and give them a better chance at overcoming poverty.

With this launch came the hiring of new teachers and staff who are working hard to create a safe, fun, and educational environment for these amazing kids, focused also on leadership principles and character building.

We are so excited to watch these students flourish in the years to come!

500,000 Arrived In The Dominican Republic This Week!

Food scarcity is one the largest issues for communities living in poverty. So when we got the chance to put together a caper that included the US Military, our friends at Global Samaritan Resources and GoMad to deliver 1,600 boxes of food equating to over 500,000 meals, we were ecstatic.

This week, all of the boxes landed at the San Isidro Air Base in the Dominican Republic in a C17 aircraft.

Our friends have already begun distributing these meals to multiple communities.

How We’re Celebrating International Women’s Month

We work with brilliant, talented and brave women and girls all over the world. For International Women’s Month, we want to highlight our newest program in the Dominican Republic.

Last week, alongside our partners at GoMad, we held the grand opening of our Love Does Women’s Resource Center in Sosúa, Dominican Republic.

The center is a much needed response to the many vulnerable Dominican and Haitian refugee women who are forced to work in the streets to provide for themselves and their families. Working with the local government, the center provides an opportunity for an alternate pathway through free English classes, job training, medical exams, mental and physical health resources, and other learning opportunities. We are working on, with your generosity, making it sustainable long term with a drive through coffee shop and/or motorcycle repair shop on the property which will also provide additional job opportunities.

The center is a place of encouragement, safety and hope for these courageous women. We can’t wait to watch it all unfold in the years to come.

Dominican Republic Update

When there’s a natural disaster or crisis somewhere in the world, thanks to the news and social media all eyes and resources focus on them for a short period until the next crisis grabs our attention. But you’ve probably wondered before as we do, what about the places that we heard about so much- is everything ok there now?

The Dominican Republic is home to many with food insecurity including displaced Haitians. The question we’re always asking wherever we go is “What can we do to show tangible love and hope?”

Starting now, Love Does is coordinating with Global Samaritan Resources and the US & D.R. military to deliver 549,000 meals to be shipped to communities in the D.R. that are in tremendous need.

Megan, a friend from a collaborating organization called GoMad said, “I continue to be amazed at how the impossible can become a reality.”

The food will feed 60,000 children, 25,000 women, and 15,000 men. Each one of those numbers represents a kid, a sister, a mom, or an uncle who will have a tangible reminder of hope and encouragement- thanks to you.
